ELEANOR MAE CHAMBERS
Cedar Rapids
Eleanor Mae Chambers, known to many of her friends as Connie, died peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, Nov.
22, 2016, from complications
of Alzheimer's disease. She was just three months shy of her 92nd birthday. While the family and friends she left behind will miss her terribly, she is enjoying a heavenly reunion with her husband, John; beloved son, John Edward "Eddie"; grandson, Mark Simmons; her mother and father, Zeffie Mae and Shurad Weldon; and her brothers, Henry, Albert (and Jane) and Douglas (and Naomi) Weldon; and many other relatives and friends.
Eleanor was born Feb. 14, 1925, in Fredricksburg, Texas. She married John T. Chambers on Oct. 10, 1945, in Farmers Branch, Texas, where they made their home until moving to Irving, Texas, in 1956. They owned and worked together at Chambers Upholstery Shop for more than 20 years before retiring and moving to Possum Kingdom Lake, Texas, in 1985. After John passed away in 1997, Eleanor continued living at PK Lake until April 2008, when she moved to Iowa to be near her daughter and grandson and their families.
Known for her bright smile, laughing eyes, feisty spirit and strong faith, Eleanor loved taking care of her family and others all throughout her life. She also was very proud of her Texas roots and loved it when people began calling her "Miss Texas" in her mid-80s.
Eleanor is survived by her daughter, Lynn and husband Mike Ciha; her grandson, Mike Chambers and his wife, Tracy; her great-grandson, Brayden; her brother, Robert Weldon; her daughter-in-law, Laura Chambers Long; and several nieces and nephews.
On behalf of Eleanor's family, we would like to thank the wonderful staff and care team at Meth-Wick's Woodlands facility who loved and adopted "Nanny" as their own, and made her final four years in this life the most enjoyable ones possible.
Private graveside services will take place in Dallas at a later date. Local arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion.
