Eldon C. Pretz, 87, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday evening, July 13, 2015, at his home following a sudden illness. Funeral services: 10 a.m. Saturday, July 18, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Conroy, with the Rev. Gary Sears officiating. Burial will be in the Marengo Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 17, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo.
A memorial fund has been established.
Eldon is survived by his wife, Lyn; a son, Larry of Boone; a daughter, Karen King of Ely; two grand-children, Jacob Pretz of Boone and Shana Haag of Milton, Ga.; two great-grandchildren, Max and Kingston Haag; two stepdaughters, Trisha Thurston and Melody Ewald; and a stepgrand-daughter, Harper Thurston. A sister, Marlene Miller of Marengo, also survives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Loren; and two sisters, Darlene Hacker and Betty Morsted.
Eldon Clarence Pretz was born May 17, 1928, in rural Marengo, Iowa, the son of Edwin and Martha Teggatz Pretz. He graduated from Marengo High School. Eldon was the owner and operator of Eldon Pretz Pipe Organ Service for over 50 years. He also worked at Wilson Packing Co. for 32 years. Eldon married Arlene D. Bernards on Sept. 3, 1949. The couple later divorced. He and Lyn Veloso were married Oct. 5, 1999, in Crookston, Neb.
Eldon was a pilot and enjoyed flying in his free time. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Conroy.
