Elderkin, Kenton W.
Kenton W. Elderkin, 66, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Des Moines after a short illness. Private family graveside services, with military rites, will be held Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be no public visitation. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his parents, David M. and Frances, and one brother, David A. (Shearon), all of Cedar Rapids; and a niece, Susan Elderkin (Jon Stier), and their children, Adian and Aliza, of Seattle, Wash.
Kenton was born May 15, 1944, in Cedar Rapids, the son of David M. and Frances (Teeters) Elderkin. After graduating from Washington High School he earned a B.S. degree from the Naval Academy, a J.D. from Florida State University, an M.B.A. from Northeastern University in Boston and a Certificate of Letters from the University of Sorbonne in Paris, France.
Kenton proudly served first in the United States Marine Corps, and then in the United States Navy, where he completed two tours in Vietnam as chief communications officer aboard the aircraft carrier America. After working as a countertrade analyst for Polaroid Corporation in Boston, Kenton became a self-employed publisher of video presentations and was the author of numerous books.
He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
