Elbert L. McMickle, 88, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, June 24, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, where friends may call after noon on Wednesday. Entombment, with military rites: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; two sons, David (Cindy) and Patrick (Sharon), both of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Pamela (Dana) Serovy of Marion; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.
Elbert was born Sept. 17, 1928, in North English, Iowa, the son of John and Louie Wymore McMickle. He married Phyllis L. Fynbu on July 6, 1950, in Anamosa.
Elbert was a railroad clerk for the Milwaukee Railroad for over 40 years, retiring in 1988. He served in the Navy during the Korean War on the destroyer USS Damato.
Elbert enjoyed fishing, doing yardwork, and especially the time he spent with his beloved family.
His memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
A memorial fund has been established.
