Elam, Johnny Baskerville
Johnny Baskerville Elam, 71, of Melbourne, Fla., went to be with the Lord Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, after a long battle with cancer.
A native of Lincolnton, N.C., he moved to Melbourne from Marion, Iowa in 1991.
Johnny served in the United States Air Force during Vietnam and worked as a technical writer for Rockwell Collins for 35 years before retiring.
Johnny attended First United Methodist Church in Melbourne and was also a member of American Legion Post 298 in Marion and Melbourne Mens Golf Association. He enjoyed coaching women's softball, bowling, and spending time with his granddaughters.
He leaves behind his wife, Vonetta of Melbourne; two daughters, Amy (Robert) Hadley of Port St. John, Fla., and Angie Elam of Melbourne; sister, Shirley Howell of Cherryville, N.C.; brother, Richard Elam of Shelby, N.C.; and two granddaughters, Amanda and Rylee Hadley of Port St. John.
Family and friends will gather to visit at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21, at First United Methodist Church, with a service to follow at 3 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Wuestoff Hospice or American Cancer Society.
