Elaine Ardath Smith, 86, of Central City, died Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Funeral service: 1:30 p.m. Monday, July 21, at Murdoch Fu-neral Home & Cremation Service, Central City. The family will greet friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 20, at the funeral home in Central City. Burial: Boulder Cemetery, Central City.
Survivors include her children, Carla (Ray) Barta, LaNeil (Bruce) McFadden, Dedra (Mark) Beauregard and Jara Pavlis; son-in-law, Rick Pavlis; grandchildren, Damon (Donelle) Puckhaber, Ryan (Amy) Barta, Nicole (Eric) Braden, Ian McFadden, Brant Beauregard, Brandon "Boomer" (Sara) Beauregard, Alexandra "Lexi" Pavlis, Madison Pavlis and Savannah Pavlis; great-grand-children, Jordenn, Abby, Drake, Dakota, and Aubrey; step-grandchildren, Sha, Chad and Piper McFadden; and one great-grandchild due this Sep-tember.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sisters, Juanita, Dolores and Virginia; and grandson, Shannon.
Elaine was born Dec. 26, 1927, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Wallace and Alice (Higgen-bottom) Lyons. She married Harold R. Smith on Oct. 16, 1947, in Cedar Rapids.
Elaine was a member of the Golden Rule Club. During the years her children were in school, she was an active volunteer for the Central City School District. More than anything, Elaine enjoyed attending her childrens' and grandchildrens' sporting events. She also enjoyed traveling, playing cards with her friends at the Senior Dining Center in Central City, gambling, and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and ISU Cyclone fan.
