ELAINE MARGARET GOETZ
Cedar Rapids
Elaine Margaret Goetz, 89, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Monday, Feb. 1, 2016. Funeral services will be held at noon Friday, Feb. 5, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. A visitation will be held one hour before the service. The Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer will be officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Elaine was born on July 2, 1926, in North English, Iowa, the daughter of Hurley and Amber (Lantz) Long. Elaine grew up on a farm in North English. During school years she would walk to Green Valley School where she had many cousins. Elaine liked all the subjects and was especially good at art. She took tap dancing and piano lessons. She wrote a column in the Wellman Advance. After graduating, Elaine attended Parsons College in Fairfield to earn a teaching certificate. She taught in one room country schools from 1945 to 1948. She met John L. Goetz in March 1946. They were married June 26, 1948. Elaine then worked at Killians until 1950.
She enjoyed her life and friends in Cedar Rapids and at Keystone Place. In June 2012, failing health caused her to go to Manor Care for therapy and in 2013, she moved to Northbrook for longterm care.
She will be remembered as a kind and generous mother who dedicated herself to the well being of her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Larry; and brother, Don.
Left to cherish Elaine's memory are her husband of 67 years, John Goetz; son, Glenn (Mary) Goetz of Amana; and grandchildren, Max and Hollan Goetz, both of Cedar Rapids.
