ELAINE BALL
Mount Vernon
Elaine Ball, 71, passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2017, at her home outside of Mount Vernon, Iowa, after living with cancer for several years. Her children and friends were by her side.
Elaine was a visual artist who created a beautiful and sacred space on 10 acres of land she cultivated for more than 40 years. Elaine also cultivated a vibrant community of friends and neighbors, whose love and support before and during her illness were humbling to witness. Elaine was known for her honesty, independence and intelligence. She was a world traveler who spent time in India, Nepal and Mexico. When she was home in Iowa, Elaine read constantly, studied the Tibetan language and created beautiful and challenging artwork in wood, fiber, stone, print, paint and metal.
She is survived by her daughter, Phoebe Ball, and granddaughter, Sophia Ball; son, Jeremiah Ball, and his wife, France Jaffe; her brothers, Curt Bucknell and Del Bucknell; and countless friends.
At the request of Elaine's children, a three-day Phowa was performed by Anyen Rinpoche. A celebration of Elaine's life will be held at Elaine's home on Sept. 16, starting at 3 p.m. Please contact phoebeball@hotmail.com for details.
