Eivins, Gail Ray
Gail Ray Eivins, 50, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully following a courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Services: 1 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Hills Community Church, by Pastor Kent Landhuis. Friends may visit with family from 3 to 8 p.m. on Friday at Teahen Funeral Home. Friends may also visit after noon on Saturday at the church.
Gail is survived by his loving wife, Shari; two devoted sons, Ryan and Jared; sister, Barb (Randy) Lee of Winterset; father- and mother-in-law, Dale and Carolyn Dillenburg of Creston; one brother-in-law and family; one sister-in-law and family; and seven nephews.
Gail was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Bob.
Gail was born Nov. 22, 1962, in Troy, Mo., the son of Harold and Jean (Peckham) Eivins. He married Shari Dillenburg on May 25, 1985, in Creston. Gail graduated in 1981 from Orient-Macksburg High School and then attended Iowa State University, where he received a bachelor's degree in engineering. He worked as an electrical engineer at Rockwell Collins for 19 years.
Gail was an amazing husband and dad. He was an outstanding coach for his sons' sports teams since they were young, including football, soccer and basketball, but was most passionate about coaching baseball. He was very supportive of his sons' activities and their education. He served as an AWANA leader at the Cedar Hills E-Free Church. As a coach with the Metro Youth Football Association, USSA baseball teams, and multiple YMCA sports, he was adored by the players that he coached and their families. He greatly supported and was actively involved in the Jefferson J-Hawk athletic program. He was also an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed toward the family to be donated toward the Jefferson High School Athletic Department and the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.
