Gayleen M. Eilers
Dr. Gayleen “Gay” Eilers, 55, of La Crosse, Wis., formerly of Cedar Rapids, passed away at home Oct. 17, 2011. At her request, Gayleen will be cremated and inurnment will take place in Nelson, Neb., at a later date.
Gay was born Nov. 29, 1955, in Nelson, Neb., the daughter of Bob and Mildred Eilers. She graduated from Nelson High School, Hastings College, the University of Nebraska Medical Center, and the Cedar Rapids Family Practice Residency Program.
Gayleen graduated with many academic honors, including Alpha Chi, Summa Cum Laude, Doctor of Medicine with Distinction, Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society, and others.
Gay was a member of the American Academy of Family Practice, the Wisconsin Academy of Family Physicians, the American College Health Association, the North Central College Health Association, the American College Personnel Association, and the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators.
Gayleen practiced medicine in Cedar Rapids as well as in Eau Claire and La Crosse, Wis. She was a respected and dedicated physician, and had recently retired from her practice in La Crosse.
Gayleen enjoyed running, biking, scrapbooking, gardening, Bible study groups, and reading.
Gay was a wonderful daughter and sister. She is survived by her parents, Bob and Mildred Eilers of Nelson, Neb.; her brother and his wife, Stan and Carol Eilers of Cedar Rapids; nephews, Scott Eilers and his wife, Tracy, of Apple Valley, Minn., and Tim Eilers of Cedar Rapids; niece, Alison Eilers, and great-niece, Lily, also of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents.
Memorials may be made to the Fitness Center in Nelson, Neb.
Thank you to all of her good friends in LaCrosse, Wis., for making the last few days a bit easier.
