Eileen Ann Armbruster, 95, of Iowa City, passed away on Friday, Dec. 8, 2017, at Superior Care Iowa in Iowa City. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 15, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Riverside. Burial will be in the Mount Olivet Cemetery. Following the committal services at the cemetery, a time of food and fellowship will be held at St. Mary's Parish Center. Visitation will be held Thursday, Dec. 14, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Riverside. A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in memory of Eileen. Online condolences for the family may be sent to www.lewisfuneralhomes.com.
Eileen Ann Strabala was born on July 27, 1922, in Richmond, Iowa, the daughter of Wino and Villa (Schmidt) Strabala. She was united in marriage to Francis Armbruster. Eileen worked at the University of Iowa, and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family.
Eileen will be deeply missed by her children, Jane (Malcom) Armbruster of Oakland, Calif., Cathy (Warren) Grout of Forrest, Va., Richard Armbruster of Austin, Texas, and Tim Armbruster of Iowa City; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one brother, Larry Strabala of Iowa City.
Eileen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Andy Armbruster; granddaughter, Kara Grout; two brothers, James Strabala and Maurice "Moe" Strabala; and three sisters, Rita Strabala, Mary Connelly and Lois Armbruster.
