Ehrmann, George F.
George F. Ehrmann, 90, died Thursday, May 23, 2013, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Funeral Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church, Marengo, with the Rev. Gerald Rife officiating. Burial: West Amana Cemetery with military honors. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, is handling arrangements.
Memorials may be contributed to the charity of the donor's choice or the First Presbyterian Church, Marengo.
George is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ruth; a daughter, Debra of Marina, Calif.; a son, Jeffrey (Barbara) of Bettendorf; two grandsons, James (Kelly) of Bellevue, Wash. and Timothy of Dubuque; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Henrietta Schwarting; and four brothers, Alfred, Walter, Roy and Richard.
George was born May 4, 1923, in West Amana, Iowa, the son of Fred and Ida Schoenfelder Ehrmann. He graduated from Amana High School in 1941 and married Ruth L. Meyer on April 24, 1948, at the First Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids.
George served his country honorably during World War II in the U.S. Army. He was awarded three bronze battle stars serving in the Battle of the Bulge in the Bastogne area where he was injured and received the Purple Heart. George and his four brothers all served in the armed forces during World War II.
Upon his return from service, George returned to work at Amana Refrigeration as production manager. He retired in 1989 as manager of Quality Assurance.
