Ehlts, Kathryn C.
Kathryn C. Ehlts, 84, died Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 9, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Monticello, with interment in Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 until 8 p.m. Friday at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello. The Rev. Darryl Larson will officiate at the services.
Surviving are four children, Diania (Charles) Rigby, Jeanette (Michael) Elkin, Christine (Dennis) Steger, all of Monticello, and Gerald (Betty) Ehlts of Walford; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Marvin (Alberta) Boysen of Marion, Roy (Cis) Boysen of Mesa, Ariz., and Ron (Linda) Boysen of Gaithersburg, Md.; and two sisters, Betty (Jim) White and Ruth Avis, both of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Henry in 2004; a grandson, Nicholas Eby in 2007; two sisters, Caroline Fiedler and Darlene Chapman; and a brother, John Boysen.
Kathe Katharine Caroline Boysen was born July 29, 1926, in Jones County, Iowa, the daughter of Julius John and Henrietta (Osterkamp) Boysen. She received her education in the Amber, Center Junction and Monticello schools. Kathryn C. Boysen and Henry J. Ehlts were married June 29, 1947, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church. After she raised her family, Katie was employed at the Canning factory, Button factory and Julin Printing in Monticello. During the 1960s, she started working at Yeoman and Co., where she retired in 1989. Kathryn was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church. She was baptized Oct. 30, 1926, at Wayne Zion Church and confirmed her faith on Dec. 15, 1946, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church.
Kathryn and Henry loved to go fishing at the Turtle Creek Bridge; she also enjoyed gardening, canning, pickling fish and was a die-hard NASCAR fan.
