Efting, William D. 'Bill'
William D. “Bill” Efting, 84, of Waterloo, Iowa, died at Covenant Medical Center Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013.
Bill was born Dec. 26, 1928, in Sheldon, Iowa, son of Gerrit and Mae Druger Efting. He finished high school while serving in the Army from 1946-1949. Bill later graduated from barber school in Sioux City. He married Lucille “Lu” Van Vooren on Nov. 19, 1955, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waterloo.
Bill owned Marsh Place Barber Shop for 40 years and worked part time in sporting goods at J.C. Penney from 1975-1992. He was the voice of Waterloo Baseball in 1970s and 1980s.
He was a member of Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and was secretary/ treasurer for the AMVETS Bowling League for 20 years.
Bill is survived by his son, Jim (Liz) Efting of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; daughter, Cindy Efting Klein of Bainbridge Island, Wash.; daughter, Lisa Teramo of Santa Cruz, Calif.; daughter, Mary Curtiss of Scotts Valley, Calif.; 13 grandchildren: Charlie, Meredith and Katherine Klein; Maria, Annie, Luke and John Efting; Nate, Ben and Gracie Teramo; Mitchell, Griffin and Will Curtiss; sister, LaSalle Gasahl of East Moline, Ill.; and sister, Geneva Petersen of Sibley, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Elmer and John; and sister, Shirley in infancy.
Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27, at Kearns Funeral Service-Kimball Chapel, Waterloo, with visitation one hour before services.
Memorials to Honor Flight through Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 or Cedar Valley Hospice.
