Edwin Eugene Topping, 80, of Hiawatha, passed away Friday, Jan. 19, 2018, at his home. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Edwin was born Nov. 23, 1937, the son of William and Elizabeth (Schoon) Topping, in Amber, Iowa. He attended and graduated from Anamosa High School in 1956. Upon graduation, Ed began working at Iowa Manufacturing, later Cedar Rapids Inc.
He married JoAnn Scott on Sept. 4, 1971, and turned his house in Hiawatha into a home. Together they had two beautiful children and lived a happy, comfortable life until her death, too soon, in 1988. Ed gave his children a wonderful childhood and was a caring father.
Survivors include his son, Terry (Jennifer) Topping and their children, Brandon and Travis; daughter, Tina (Steven) Patterson and their children, Matthew and Bethany Burnett and Isaiah Patterson; and three sisters, Ani (Zelda) Adar, June (LaVerne) Ulferts and Erna (Lloyd) Young.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; two sisters, Betsy Hartwig and Bionda Boots; and brother, Rhinehart Topping.
