Edwin Sleep, 87, of Anamosa, Iowa, passed away at home on Thursday, Oct. 12, 2023, surrounded by his family. Celebration of Life: 1 to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2023, at CJ’s Sports Bar & Grill, 62 17th Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids. Private burial at Czech National Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. The family is being cared for by Papich-Kuba Funeral Service, Cedar Rapids.
Edwin is survived by his wife of 65 years, Carol; children, Cynthia (Steve) Chapman and Brad (Barb) Sleep; grandchildren, Brooke Kirchhoff, Autumn Zimmerman, Troy Sleep, and Kyle Sleep; great-grandchildren, Ashley, Aubrey, April, Avan, Annalee, Aphton, River, and Libby; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Edwin was born Aug. 13, 1936, in Bedford, Iowa, the son of Martin and Viona (Gray) Sleep. He graduated from Bedford High School in 1954. Edwin married Carol Salat on June 14, 1958, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. He served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps. Edwin was a very proud Teamster truck driver for H&W Motor Express, where he drove over two million miles on mostly local routes.
He enjoyed going camping, casinos, spending time with his grandchildren, and being an avid, yet disgruntled fan of the Minnesota Vikings. Edwin and Carol loved to travel, especially their many winters in the Gulfport and Biloxi areas.
Edwin was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and two sisters.
