Edwin Hart, 79, died Thursday, Jan. 28, 2021, at the Jones Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.
Edwin donated his body to the University of Iowa, Department of Anatomy in Iowa, City. A visitation will be held from 4 to
7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 1, at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa. Interment will be at a later date at the Wilcox Cemetery,
rural Anamosa. Mask's must be worn and fitted properly over the nose and mouth at all times to enter the funeral home. Social distancing needs to be practiced as well. You may sign the guestbook or leave a condolence at goettschonline.com. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Ed is survived by his wife, Lois; his children, Vincent of Chicago, Julie (Mark) Frederick, Lisbon, and Stacy (Brett) Rathje, Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Steve (Alycia) Benishek, Nicole (Mark) Schaller, Alex, Madison, Peyton and Logan Rathje; three great-grandchildren, Kennady and Kingston Benischek and Emma Schaller; and his siblings, John Hart, Anamosa, David Hart, Robbins, Mary Taylor, Cedar Rapids, Kim Hart, Martelle and Bill Hart, Diagonal.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a great-granddaughter, Melanie Jewel Schaller.
Ed was born Jan. 8, 1942, at the Anamosa Community, Hospital. He was the son of Charles and Elizabeth Newlin, Hart. He was the first baby of the New Year. He received his education in the Viola, schools. Ed married Lois Wadsworth on June 25, 1961, at the Viola Methodist Church. Ed was employed at Rockwell Collins and later at Wilson Foods in Cedar Rapids. He finished his working career at Carlson College in Stone City where he was the grounds keeper.
Ed was passionate about his work shop and loved to "shoot the breeze" with anyone who would stop by for advice or to comment on anyone of his numerous projects. He lived his entire live in Viola and had an endless sense of curiosity about everything, his toys, the latest Ipad, the best mushroom spots, what his kids or grandkids were up to and, most important were his dogs, Sophie Girl and Louie. He had served on the Wilcox Cemetery Board and the Viola Methodist Church Board.
