EDWIN JOHN "EDDIE" GALLAHER
Houston, Texas
Edwin John Gallaher was born Nov. 8, 1962, in Chicago, and died suddenly Sept. 27, 2015, in Houston, Texas.
Eddie was the son of Stella Gallaher and Charlie Gallaher and grew up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He graduated from Metro High School and attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids and the University of Houston.
Eddie is survived by his mom and dad; his sister, Charlene Gallaher Cally; his niece, Brittany Cally; and his very close friend and companion, Liza Daily.
Eddie worked for a number of years in the creative writing program at the University of Houston and then for 20 years at Houston Community College in the English and math departments.
Eddie was a help to all he encountered. His dedication to service was clear. A talented writer, he enjoyed helping all in improving the writing from the beginning writer to the most accomplished. His writing was published in the Paris Review, ArtLies, Living Blues, The Weight of Addition and was anthologized in the Retellings: a Thematic Literature Anthology. He helped countless faculty and students with writing, advising and life.
A visitation and a me-morial service, with committal, were held for Eddie in Houston.
Memorials may be directed to the Houston Community College Foundation: https://hccsfoundation.org or to Metro High School, Cedar Rapids.
