Edwards, Janice Kay Wiebold
Janice Kay Wiebold Edwards, 73, of Newton, formerly of Conroy, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at Careage of Newton. A memorial service is planned for 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Conroy.
Memorials to the Iowa County Fair, Lake Iowa Nature Park, or Dollars for Scholars may be left at the church the day of the service.
Janice, the daughter of John Frances Merritt and Dorothy L (Allen) Slaymaker, was born April 8, 1939, in Benton County at the home of her Aunt Jeanie. She graduated from Victor Schools in Iowa County. Janice was united in marriage with Roy Gilbert Wiebold in 1956. He preceded her in death in April 1995. In 2001, Janice was united in marriage with Ronald O. Edwards in Marengo.
Janice devoted her life to her family. She enjoyed collecting and antiques. Janice also liked gardening, crafting, quilting, cooking and canning when she had a chance. She also never passed up a local garage sale or the What Cher Flee Markets. Janice enjoyed going to the Iowa County Fair which she entered and won many exhibits throughout the year. She had a gift for being able to take something and make it look like it came from a department store window.
Janice was a member of the Iowa County Historical Society and the Trinity Lutheran Church.
In August 2009, she moved to Newton Village Retirement Center in Newton to be near her daughter and son-in-law, Janelle and Dave Ohmstede. She later moved to Careage of Newton.
Those left to honor Janice's memory are her daughters, Patricia Ann (Thomas) McClure of Williamsburg and Janelle Elaine (David) Ohmstede of Newton; four grandchildren, Sara McClure of Vail, Colo., Jonathan (Shanna) McClure of Tiffin, Darren Ohmstede of Newton and Dustin (Dani) Ohmstede of Newton; her great-grandchildren, Bryce and Adalynn; several brothers and sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, J.F. M. Slaymaker in 1976 and Dorothy L. Slaymaker in 2001; first husband, Roy G. Wiebold in 1995; second husband, Ronald Edwards in 2007; a sister, Kathleen Joyce Wiebold in 2003; brother-in-law, Dale E. Wiebold in 1985; and two infant sisters, Mary Ann in 1936 and Peggy Lou in 1940.
