Edward N. Wilson, 78, longtime former Iowa City insurance agent, died Monday, Aug. 31, 2015, at Mercy Iowa City. A gathering time celebrating Ed's life will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service.

Edward Nathan Wilson was born April 12, 1937, in Burlington, Iowa, the son of Nathan and Margaret (Jones) Wilson. His family moved to Dallas, Texas, where he grew up and graduated from high school and later received a degree in business from North Texas State University in 1958. Moving back to this area, Ed lived in Wellman during the 1960s, and moved to Iowa City in 1970. In Iowa City, he was associated with A.W. Welt Ambrisco Insurance for many years. Ed was united in marriage to Doris Cox on Nov. 26, 1976, in Iowa City.
He had been active in the Iowa City community in many aspects for many years, including his membership to the Elks Lodge, Iowa City Noon Rotary Club and the Quarterback Club, but also he served on the board for Oaknoll Retirement Residence. He was active in both the local and state Independent Insurance Agents groups, holding different offices in both over the years, including president. Ed enjoyed the game of golf, but mostly the time spent with his "golf buddies" and then his Tuesdays at First Avenue Hy-Vee with his "coffee buddies." Ed cherished the many friends he had made over his many years in this area.
His family includes his wife, Doris; son, Craig and his wife, Susan of Temple, N.H.: grandsons, Max and Nick Wilson; sisters, Meg Escue (Joe) of Memphis, Tenn., and Nan Blodgett of Houston, Texas; and Ed's sister-in-law and her husband, Margaret and Lowell Weaver of Iowa City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Teal Lee Wilson in 1975; and his brother, N. Banks Wilson.
