Edward W. Watkinson, 90, of Cedar Rapids, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, May 25, 2016, at Hiawatha Care Center. Celebration of Life services: 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 4700 Johnson Ave. NW, by the Rev. Bonnie Koeppen. Friends may visit with the family at the church after 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family.
Ed is survived by his son, Terry, and daughter, Twyla (Dan) Thomas, both of Cedar Rapids; grandsons, Chad (Andrea) Watkinson and Travis Watkinson; granddaughters, Katy Thomas and Jenny (David) Hemmes; great-granddaughter, Malia Hemmes; two great-grandsons, Matthew Hemmes and Everett Watkinson; and another great-grandchild on the way.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Waneta; and brother, Richard.
Edward William Watkinson was born Oct. 4, 1925, in Johnson County, the son of Everett and Grace Hogan Watkinson. He married Waneta June Schenk on Oct. 21, 1950, in Johnson County. Ed retired from FMC Corp. in 1981.
Ed was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church, Moose Lodge, Sandy Beach Campers Club and VFW Post 788. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed fishing, camping and spending winters in Texas and Florida.
Memorials may be directed to Ed's family and donations will be given to the Arthritis Foundation or St. Mark's United Methodist Church.
