Edward "Pip" William Ware Jr., 66, of Cedar Rapids, went home on Sunday, Oct. 1, 2017, at his residence. Memorial services: 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids, by Pastor Theron Mitchell. Visitation: one hour before the service.
Survivors include his wife, Hattie; children, LaVel Ellis Jr., Tea Ware, Joel Ware and Asia Ellis; grandchildren, Kichuan, Keimaiya, Keila, I'yonna, Mateyo, Julani and Macyn; siblings, Ceatrice, "Pete" (Herdisene), Menthia (John) and Joyce (Frank); and many nieces and nephews.
Pip was born in Richey, Miss., to Edward and DeElla (Hill) Ware. There he learned the importance of and love for family. He graduated from Henry Weathers High School in 1968 before moving to Cedar Rapids, where he married Hattie Harris on June 7, 1980. He worked at Mercy Medical Center for 21 years.
Pip was a very friendly and talkative man who loved gardening, cooking and of course, eating. He rooted on the Chicago Bears and loved nothing more than spending time with the grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Beatrice (George), "Stokie," Hazel, Bessie (TJ), Ethel (John), "Partner" (Marie) and Lois (Wallace).
Memorials may be made to the Ware Grandchildren Education Fund.
