EDWARD LEUCHS Dyersville Edward L. Leuchs, 87, of Dyersville, died Tuesday, March 3, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center, Dubuque. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 8, at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave. SW, Dyersville, where a parish vigil service will be held at 2 p.m. and an American Legion Post 137 service will be held at 7 p.m. Friends may continue to call from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday before funeral services. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 9, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville with burial in the church cemetery where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post No. 137. The Rev. Dennis Quint will officiate. Ed was born Feb. 12, 1928, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Herman J. and Olivia (Kirpes) Leuchs. He received his education in the rural Asbury schools and St. Joseph's School, Farley. He went to barber school in Cedar Rapids, before his 18 months in the United States Army where he was a diesel mechanic in the Korean War receiving two Bronze Stars and two Overseas Bars. Upon his return from service, he married Eleanor Langkamp on Feb. 7, 1953, in Platteville, Wis. They made their home in Dyersville. Ed owned and operated Ed's Barber Shop for more than 20 years. He was then employed by Dubuque County Highway Department until 1990. In retirement, he enjoyed socializing with his barber customers in his basement and taking road trips, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a member of the Dyersville American Legion Post No. 137, Dyersville City Council and AA where he enjoyed helping others. Survivors include six sons, Ron (Marcia) of Worthington, Rick (Mary) of Dyersville, Mike (Sue) of New Vienna, Mark (Patty) of Dyersville, Dan (Kelli) of Epworth and Don (Joan) of Dyersville; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sibling, Delores "Babe" Leuchs of Farley; in-laws, Isabel Manuel, Delores Langkamp, both of Platteville, Wis., and Vera Leuchs of Key West. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ellie in 2009; siblings, Joe Leuchs, Clarence Leuchs, Bernard Leuchs and Rita Oberbroeckling; in-laws, Guerden Langkamp, Marian Whitaker, Bea Sherman, Donald Manuel, Dale Whitaker and Kermit Sherman Online condolences may be left for the family at www.kramerfuneral.com.
