Edward Leon Overly, 77, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, September 29, 2025, at his residence after a long illness. No services are scheduled at this time. Teahen Funeral Home is caring for Edward and his family.
Edward was born April 17, 1948, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Milton G. and Louise M. Overly. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1966 and later earned a two-year technical degree. Edward proudly served in the United States Navy from 1968 to 1974 during the Vietnam War. He worked as a machinist for Kwik-Way Manufacturing until retiring in 2009.
Edward is survived by his stepdaughters, Becky Recker of Eastman, WI and Kelly Baughman of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Megan (Andy) Knapp of Cascade, Michaela Recker of Dallas, TX, Mitchell Recker of Des Moines, Breanne, Karissa, and Kole Baughman all of Cedar Rapids; and great-grandchildren, Briggs, Rinley, and Case Knapp of Cascade.
He was preceded in death by his spouse, Kathleen Rose; and brothers, Terry and Joseph Overly.
Edward loved crocheting, going to casinos, Nabi bowling, and his favorite pastime was watching The Indiana Fever. He will be remembered for the joy he found in these simple pleasures and the time he shared with family.
