Edward L. Castelein, 83, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Saturday, March 4, 2023. A visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 12, 2023, at The Legacy Center at Murdoch-Linwood in Cedar Rapids. Burial: Leon Cemetery, Prophetstown, Ill.
Edward was born Jan. 4, 1940, in Moline, Ill., the son of Violet (Woodworth) and Edward Louis Castelein Sr. He graduated from Alleman Catholic High School, Class of 1958. Edward went on to attend Black Hawk Junior College, and then the University of Iowa where he obtained his master's degree in business. While in school, Edward worked for John Deere. After college he moved to California and started his first job with the Ford Motor Company, and then he returned to Iowa where he began working for Cryovac until his retirement. He was united in marriage to Katherine Corcoran; the couple later divorced. Edward was a member of the Catholic Singles Club where he enjoyed dancing.
Survivors include his children, Chris Castelein and his wife, DJ of Hiawatha, Iowa; two grandchildren, Sophia Castelein and Owen Castelein; and sister, Grace Castelein Fisher.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, John Castelein; and sisters, Gloria Miller and Clarice Johnson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Promise House Memory Care unit or an Alzheimer’s charity of the donor’s choice.
