Edward H. Kintz, 91, of West Liberty, former longtime Iowa City resident, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2015, at Mercy Iowa City, surrounded by family following a brief illness. Graveside committal services, with military honors, will be held later this spring at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Time and date will appear at that time.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the West Liberty Fire Department, c/o PO Box 167, Iowa City, IA 52244.
Arrangements are with Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City.
Ed was born Jan. 25, 1924 in West Branch, Iowa, the son of Edward F. and Mildred Parsons Kintz. He was a 1941 graduate of West Branch High School and proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Ed was one of those in the "Greatest Generation" that landed on Omaha Beach. On June 22, 1989, he married Ruth Hay Weinard.
Ed was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 35 years, retiring in 1989.
He was a member of American Legion Post 17 and the 40 and 8's. Ed and Ruth enjoyed dancing and wintering in Texas. He liked to fish, garden, bowl and gamble at the casino.
Ed is survived by his sister, Sherrie (Maurice) Kaalberg of West Liberty; his children, Mike (Christine) Weinard and Laurie Schrum (Brian Bailey), both of Iowa City, Wendy (Craig) Cowan of South Bend, Ind., Becky (Steve) Boley of West Liberty and Mary (Eddie) Fults of Coralville; seven grandchildren, Ethan (Kara), Rochelle (Scott), Marcy, Doug, Alex, Shelby and Chase; three great-grandchildren, Nico, Jersey and Bartholomew; and three nephews, Jeff, Scott and Travis Kaalberg.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Ruth, in 2008.
