Edward Eugene Keppler, 84, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, May 21, 2014, in Maryland, with his
family. Memorial services: 10 a.m. June 28, 2014, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, where a visitation will begin at 9 a.m. The Rev. Dr. Kay Slocum from First Lutheran Church will officiate. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Surviving are his family, daughter, Kim Keppler-Noreuil, M.D. (Todd Noreuil M.D.), formerly of Cedar Rapids, now Bethesda, Md.; stepdaughter, Glenda (David) Pacifico of Woodland Hills, Calif.; stepson, Gary (Peggy) Steffins of Alpharetta, Ga.; a sister, Marion Pearson of Downers Grove, Ill.; a brother, Howard (Linda) Keppler of Schaumburg, Ill.; and his grandchildren, Anna and Laurel Noreuil, Sean and Scot Smith, Gary Jr., Margot and William Steffins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Rita.
Edward was born June 19, 1929, in Oak Park, Ill., the son of Eugene and Henrietta Harjes Keppler. He married Rita P. Joseph on July 26, 1960, in Wheaton, Ill. Edward was a research nuclear reactor technician for Argonne National Lab-oratory in Lemont, Ill.,
retiring after 38 years of service.
He served in the U.S. Coast Guard, stationed in Seattle, Wash., during peacetime. Edward enjoyed walking, reading, sailing, spending time with family and attending lectures and concerts at Coe and Cornell colleges. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
