Edward Joseph Vanderlind, 95, of Sarasota, Fla., and formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2018, at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. Funeral services with military rites will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Entombment will be in the Cedar Memorial Park Mausoleum. There will be a visitation on Saturday at noon, prior to the service.
Ed was born on Sept. 22, 1923, in Pontiac, Mich., the son of E.K. and Lena Vanderlind. He married Maxine Urban in 1973. Ed worked at Cherry-Burrell for 23 years, then went to Midwest Metal Products where he served as president for 27 years. He was a member of the Optimists Club, Toastmasters, Elmcrest Country Club and the Kinnick Society. He loved golfing, making three holes-in-one in his lifetime, baseball and all things football, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Survivors include his wife, Maxine; two daughters, Peggy Schneekloth of Ely and Sandra (Mike) Reid of Cedar Rapids; and daughter-in-law, Susan Vanderlind of Waterloo. Also surviving are children of his second family, Kevin (Sandy) Urban, Rita (Craig) Jelinek and Kim Urban, all of Cedar Rapids; Brett (Leslie) Urban of Fort Myers, Fla.; son-in-law, Michael Cox of Georgetown, Texas; and brother, John (Jack) Vanderlind (Barbara Cross) of Traverse City, Mich. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by son, Robert; grandson, Robert; son-in-law, Jerry; step-daughter, Marcy; his first wife, Barbara; two brothers and one sister.
Ed will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father and grandfather who showed great love, loyalty and generosity to everyone.
