Edward Paul Dessert, born in Detroit, Mich., on Sept. 21, 1922, passed away Feb. 5, 2017, after a short illness.
Ed is survived by two sons, Gerald (Barb) Dessert and John Dessert; three daughters, Jeanne (Ed) Eichler, Suzanne (John) Culin and Michele (Mike) Bishop; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean, whom he was married to for 67 years; his son, Michael; and his daughter, Mary Anne (Landon).
Ed served in World War II for the U.S. Army Signal Corps from 1942 to 1945. He graduated from Wayne State University in Detroit with a degree in electrical engineering in 1952. He then started and continued his career with Square D Co. in Detroit from 1952 to 1958; Cedar Rapids, Iowa, from 1959 to 1976; and in Lincoln, Neb., as chief engineer from 1977 until his retirement in 1987. During his career, he was cited in particular for his effort in the design and development of the QO circuit breaker/ground fault circuit interrupter. The test lab he designed in Lincoln, Neb., was a benchmark for excellence in the industry.
