Edward Merle Brunsting, 90, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, Jan. 20, 2017, at his home surrounded by family following a lengthy battle with lung cancer. Services:
1 p.m. Saturday at Westminster Presbyterian Church by Pastor Randi Henderson. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Teahen Funeral Home.
Edward is survived by three sons, Merle of Madison, Wis., Keith (Cheri) of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Steve (Sarah) of Windsor, Colo.; son-in-law, Larry Segriff of Hudson, Fla.; five grandchildren, Christine (Lee) Young, Le Brunsting, Kyria Brunsting, Megan (Chris) Reyes and Caitlin (Katie) Collins; six great-grandchildren, Justis, Keaton, Skyler, Spencer and Caleb Young and Amelia Reyes; and one great-great-grandson, Emmett Young.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jacqueline; second wife, Ardyce; daughter, Marlys Brunsting; four brothers, Albert, John, Fred and Harry; and two sisters, Nellie and Jeannette.
Edward was born Jan. 7, 1927, in Hawarden, the son of Evert and Jeannette Zorgdrager Brunsting. He attended country school for eight years and graduated from Hawarden High School in 1945 and then from the University of South Dakota with a degree in accounting. Ed served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1946. He married Jacqueline Gardner on Oct. 23, 1952, at the First Presbyterian Church in Sioux Falls, S.D. She died on July 3, 1996. Ed then married Ardyce Scoville on Feb. 14, 2000. She died on Feb. 24, 2013. Ed worked for many years at the John Morrell Company in the IBM department, where he enjoyed working on IBM machines. He then moved to Cedar Rapids and worked at the Banks of Iowa Computer Services, from where he retired in 1989.
Ed was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church for 50 years, where he served as a deacon and elder. He enjoyed traveling and loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to Westminster Presbyterian Church or the Meth-Wick Community.
