Edna Marie Greener, 103, of Manchester, died Monday, Sept. 8, 2014, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester. Funeral services: 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 12, at First Lutheran Church, Manchester, with the Rev. Tony D. Ede officiating. Visitation: 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Manchester and one hour before the service Friday at the church. Interment: Oakland Cemetery, Manchester.
Edna was the youngest of nine children born to John and Anna (Hasler) Boss on June 26, 1911, on a farm near Prairieburg. She received her education in the rural schools of Delaware County, Manchester High School and Iowa State Teachers College. On Dec. 23, 1933, Edna was united in marriage to Clarence A. Greener. To this union was born one child.
Edna taught school for eight years, managed the office of attorney Thomas H. Tracey for four years while he served in World War II and served as Delaware County Treasurer for 27 years. Upon retirement at age 65, she worked in real estate sales for another 14 years. Edna was very active in the Lutheran Church of which she was a lifetime member.
In addition to her involvement in church activities, Edna enjoyed traveling, bridge and was an accomplished china painter. Edna served on many, many civic boards and committees, including an appointment by then Governor Robert Ray on a committee of five involved in the restoration of the Governor's Mansion. In 1988, she received an award from Governor Terry Branstad in the Advocacy Achievement category.
Survivors include her son, Arden (Marlene) Greener of Elgin; two grandchildren, Alan Greener of Louisville, Ky., and Angela (Pete) Drahozal of Eldridge; a great-grandson, Joseph Drahozal; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and their wives and three sisters and their husbands.
