Edna G. Gelski, 95, a resident of Mercy Hallmar, died there Wednesday, April 29, 2015. Services: 3 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday.
Edna was born July 20, 1919, at home in Linn County near Coggon, Iowa, to Mark and Geneva Green Henderson. She was the fifth of seven children. Edna married James Gelski on Aug. 17, 1940. They made their home in Cedar Rapids, where she worked for Rockwell Collins for many years.
Edna was preceded in death by her husband, James; parents; sisters, Mary Ellen Hartman, Elizabeth Woods, Helen Dunek and Doris Andrus; and a brother, Leo Henderson.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews, and "her boys," great great-nephews, Kyle, Connor, Cullen, Eric and Matthew Woods. She also is survived by her sister, Gerry Wiant; many special friends; and the Takes family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Cedar Rapids Free Medical Clinic in Edna's name.
Edna was always thankful for her family and friends.
A heartfelt thanks to Hallmar and Hospice of Mercy for the care given to Edna.
