Edna Mae (Covington) Eldridge, 91, passed away peacefully Nov. 22, 2021, at the Vinton Lutheran Home in Vinton, Iowa. Edna will be buried at Bear Creek Cemetery, rural Vinton, alongside her loving husband, Richard Eldridge who passed away Nov. 1, 2020. Their love story is now complete as he welcomed her to their Heavenly home. A joint celebration of Richard and Edna's lives and love will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 24, at First Christian Church, Vinton. The family will greet friends beginning at 1 p.m. Please mask regardless of vaccination status and respect others' needs of social distancing.
Surviving Edna are her children and their spouses: Linda and Ken Jans of Ely, Iowa, and Dennis and Lindley Eldridge of Paradise, Texas. Also surviving Edna are her five granddaughters, Angela (Larry Pledge) Eldridge of Marion, Amy (Tammy Buseman) Cameron of Marion, Jill (Jim) Michel of North Liberty, Nicole Eldridge of Eldon, Mo., and Kaleena Eldridge of Rocky Mount, Mo.; and two step-granddaughters, Jennifer (Darryl) Robinson of Overland Park, Kan., and Melissa (Steven) Cotton of Bettendorf. In addition, Dick and Edna had 17 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren.
Left to cherish her memory is her sister, Shirley DeNeve of Van Horne. Also surviving Edna are her sisters-in-law, Nelda Covington of Temple, Texas, Betty Eldridge of Dubuque, Nancy Eldridge of Raleigh, N.C., Margaret (Wayne) Oler of Iowa Falls and Mary (John) Heitz of Marion, as well as her brother-in-law, Robert (Lorraine) Eldridge of Maynard.
In addition to her husband, Richard, Edna Mae was preceded in death by their eldest son, Steven; her parents, Carl and Nellie Covington; her brothers, Richard and Glenn Covington; and her brother-in-law, Fred DeNeve. Also preceding her in death were her parents-in-law, William and Amber (Hummel) Eldridge; her sister-in-law, Dorothy Gilroy; and her brothers-in-law, Joe Eldridge, Maurice Gilroy and Donald Eldridge,
The family would like to thank the staff of the Vinton Lutheran Home for their compassionate care of Edna and her family. Deep appreciation and respect also goes to her longtime doctor, Dr. Brian Meeker of Vinton.
