Edna E. “Betty” Noonan, 90, of Cascade, Iowa, formerly of Bernard, Iowa, passed away Sunday, May 26, 2024, surrounded by her family at River Bend Assisted Living in Cascade, Iowa.
A visitation for Betty was held from 2 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at the Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade, Iowa, where a prayer service was held at 1:30 p.m., and a CDA rosary was held at 4 p.m. Visitation will also be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Garryowen, Iowa.
Services for Betty will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 30, 2024, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Garryowen, Iowa with Rev. Mark Osterhaus presiding. Burial will be held in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Garryowen, Iowa.
Betty was born July 13, 1933, in Charlotte, Iowa, daughter of William and Edna (Ranson) McDevitt. She received her education from the Clinton County Schools and graduated from St. Patrick's Garryowen High School in Garryowen, Iowa. On January 31, 1953, she was united in marriage to Glynn Noonan at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Garryowen, Iowa. Together the couple farmed on the Noonan Family Century Farm. He preceded her in death on January 30, 2022.
She was a lifelong member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Garryowen, Iowa, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and was a member of the St. Patrick’s Rosary Society and Choir, having sung in the choir during the first Irish Mass at Garryowen. Betty was also a 4-H Leader, a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Blessed Mother Court #1926 since 1966, and the Cascade Band Boosters, where she held offices in both organizations.
She is survived by her six children, Karen (Larry) Bell of Dyersville, Jane (John) Demmer of Cedar Falls, Diane (Clay) Gavin of Cascade, Stephen (Janet) Noonan of Robins, Maureen (Nick) Gaeta of Hiawatha, and Caroline (Michael) Erickson of Elkader; 15 grandchildren, Brian Bell, Colleen (Adam) Humphrey, Molly (Dan) Lahart, Matt (Lindsay) Demmer, Jason Gavin, Nicholas Gavin, Erin (Travis) Foster, Michael (Courtney) Noonan, Mackenzie (Kyle) Haase, Morgan (Fiancé Andrew Hood) Noonan, Mikayla Noonan, Emily (Brendan) Ahern, Ryan McMahon, Ashley (Clayton) Paulson, Tony (Kelsey) Koppes; three stepgrandchildren, Noah Erickson, Reegan Erickson and Gabe Erickson; granddaughter-in-law, Katie Bell; 21 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Connie McDevitt of Phoenix, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Mary Carol and Marilyn Therese both in infancy; one grandson, Patrick Bell, on May 4, 2024; one stepgranddaughter, Miya Erickson; four brothers, William (Elinor) McDevitt, Robert McDevitt, Thomas (Barbara) McDevitt, and John McDevitt; one sister, Marguerite (James) McCoy: her father and mother-in-law, Frank and Mae (Budde) Noonan; brothers-in-law, Paul (LaVerne) Noonan, Frank “F.J.” (Elaine) Noonan, Bill (Claire) Noonan, Gerard “Bud” (Lola) Noonan.
The family would like to give a special thank-you to Dr. Emily Hill, Rev. Mark Osterhaus, parish staff, the nurses and staff at River Bend Assisted Living, and Hospice of Dubuque for all the wonderful care they gave to Betty.
