EDMUND "LEE" GLESNE

Prairie du Chien, Wis.

Edmund "Lee" Glesne, 92, of Marion, Iowa, formerly of Prairie du Chien, Wis., died Monday, Nov. 13, 2017, at Winslow House in Marion.

Lee was born June 1, 1925, to Oscar T. and Josephine (Lee) Glesne in St. Olaf, Iowa. He attended the Glesne School for grades one to six, and graduated from Elkader High School. Lee received his B.A. in education from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, and earned his master's in school administration from the University of Northern Illinois. Lee enlisted in the Army after graduating from high school. He served overseas in the European Theater in the 76th Field Artillery Battalion Battery C.

Lee was united in marriage with Mary Ann Larson on May 29, 1949, at Norway Lutheran Church, St. Olaf. He taught junior high school and coached in Montezuma, Iowa, and later was an elementary principal in St. Charles, lll. Lee also owned and operated the Holiday Motel in Prairie du Chien. Lee enjoyed following the Chicago White Sox and Green Bay Packers, trout fishing on the Yellow River, hunting, gardening, storytelling and photography.

He is survived by his children, Dr. Mark Glesne of Pekin, Ill., Reed (Susan) Glesne of Mount Vernon, Wash., and Linda (Dennis) Fitz of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Ellzabeth (Chris) Marlow, Dr. Brian (Heather) Glesne, Dr. Kurt (Stacy) Glesne, Robert (Erin) Glesne, Chris Glesne, Brandon (Dr. Sara) Fitz, Erika (Ryan) Rensvold, Drew (Natalie) Glesne and Sara Glesne; 18 great-grandchildren, Sophia, Gavin and Chase Marlow, Lucas, Emily and Taylor Glesne, Elle, Vivian and Eva Glesne, Martin and Andrew Glesne, Max, Charlie and Grant Fitz, Olivia and Milo Rensvold, Roman and Stella Glesne, and one more on the way in February; brother, John (Ann) Glesne of Decorah, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Sue of Minneapolis, Minn.; a brother-in-law, Roger (Jackie) Larson of Sacramento, Calif.; and seven nieces.

Lee was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Josephine Glesne; beloved wife, Mary Ann; his youngest son, John; great-grandson, Miles; and daughter-in-law, Arlene.

A special thank-you to the staff at Winslow House for all their love and support given to Lee and his family.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 1, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Prairie du Chien, with the Rev. Joe Irvin as the officiant. There also will be a one-hour visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. before services at the church on Friday.

Burial with military rites will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, at Norway Lutheran Church Cemetery, St. Olaf.

Memorials may be directed in his honor to St. Peter's Church or to a favorite organization.
