Edlund, Ked
Ked Edlund (68) of Marion, Iowa and Oro Valley, Ariz., died June 24, 2012, at the Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha following a battle with cancer. Visitation and a “Celebration of Life Service” will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids on Saturday, July 14, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with a luncheon and service to follow.
Kedric John Edlund was born May 20, 1944, in Morrison, Ill., the son of Merle and Virginia (Forth) Edlund. He graduated from Morrison High School in Morrison, Ill., in 1962 and the University of Iowa in 1969, with bachelor's and master's degrees in music education. He was particularly honored to have participated in the U.S.A. State Department sponsorship of the University of Iowa Symphony Band Cultural Overseas Tour, Europe and Russia (1966).
Ked retired after 32 years as head band director and music department chair (1969-2001), District 153 Elementary and Middle Schools, Homewood, Ill. Ked and Sandra made their home in the Chicago area for over 30 years, before retiring to Iowa in 2001.
Ked's survivors include his cherished wife of 43 years, Sandra (Haaf) Edlund; two sisters, Karen Groos and husband Robert of Crystal Lake, Ill., and Kristen Lineberger of Long Beach, Calif.; six sisters-in-law and husbands, Joan and Scyler Cherry of Des Moines, Debra and Mike Beall of Petaluma, Calif., Jacquelyn and Mike Peebler of Robins, Cathy and Jeff Nelson of Cedar Rapids, Lynn and Chris Olds of Davenport and Dawn and Steve Myers of Norwalk, Iowwa; 29 nieces and nephews; and 16 great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Merle and Virginia (Forth) Edlund of Morrison, Ill.; and his parents-in-law, John and Marjorie (Lang) Haaf of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Ked enjoyed music in all forms, golf (greatly regretting the opportunity to defend his title at the 2012 Roughriders Tournament, Oro Valley, Ariz.), traveling, fishing, hunting, cars, and gardening, but the time he treasured most was the time he was given to spend with his family and friends. Too short.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in his name, in care of Sandra Edlund.
Online condolences may be left at www.cedarmemorial.com under “obituaries.”
