                                    Edl, Erwin 'Ed' Louis
Erwin “Ed” Louis Edl, 80, died Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa.
Ed was born in the Bronx, N.Y., on Feb. 1, 1930. His parents, Michael and Julia (Paksi), immigrated from Hungary and had two children Adele and Erwin “Ed.” Ed attended high school in New York City, graduating at the age of 16. He attended college in New York for two years before entering the Air Force in 1948, retiring with the rank of technical staff sergeant in 1968. During his 20 years, he was stationed in Germany, Turkey, Nebraska and Maryland. Shortly after arriving at his first assignment at Spandalhem AFB in Germany, he met his first wife, Luise Erdmann, whom he was married to until her death in 1979. Together they had six children. Ed remarried Fulvia Primavera in 1984 and they lived in Albuquerque, N.M., until 2007.
Ed is survived by his wife, Fulvia of Rockville Center, N.Y.; sister, Adele (Alex) Boyer of Wadsworth, Ohio.; children, Luise (John) Fleegle of Waysboro, Pa., Michael (Darcy) Edl of Solon, Robert (Jerri) Edl of Searcy, Ark., Susan Edl of Burlingame, Calif., Joseph (Suzie) Edl of Aurora, Colo., Rich (Christina) Mailhos of Willington, Conn., and Patricia (Oscar) Balloveras of Freeport, N.Y.; 21 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Ed was proceeded in death by his first wife, Luise in 1979; and his son, Edward in 1995.
The family wishes for donations to be sent to the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa.
The love and care that Ed received in his final days from the staff of Loftus 1 was phenomenal and deeply appreciated.
Erwin was a simple and practical man with few indulgences, other than his deep love for his family. His smile will be greatly missed.
