Edith Bertha Schwers
Anamosa
Edith Bertha Schwers, 88, of Anamosa, Iowa, entered the gates of heaven on Sunday, January 25, 2026. Funeral visitation will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Anamosa, from 9:00-11:00 Saturday, January 31, 2026. Funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. followed by a private family burial at Holy Cross Cemetery, Anamosa. Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa is assisting the family.
Edith was born December 28, 1937, near Sand Springs, Iowa, to Louis and Leona (Greiner) Nachtman. She was raised near Ryan, Iowa, and following her high school graduation, Edith worked on the family farm and at Guaranty Bank & Trust until her marriage to Lawrence Schwers in 1958. She was an excellent ‘stay at home’ mother to their five children while also managing the bookkeeping for L.A. Schwers Construction, Anamosa, for 20 years. Following her divorce from Lawrence, Edith enjoyed many years with her partner, Kenneth Keating, while helping on his cattle farm and working various odd jobs in the Anamosa area. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church for over 65 years. Edith was never one to sit still and was able to care for her own home and yard well into her 80’s. Relaxation included embroidery, gardening and plants, and her word search puzzles.
Survivors include her children, Patty Manuel (Mike Meissen), Ankeny; Gene (Shellie) Schwers, Cedar Rapids; Ed (Robin) Schwers, Sand Springs, Oklahoma; Kathy Langenberg (Carl Stuber), Anamosa; Carol (Greg) Husmann, Anamosa; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Arthur Nachtman, Ryan; and a sister-in-law, Caroline Nachtman, Manchester.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Esther Linden, Sister Loretta Nachtman, OSF, Sister Mildred Nachtman, OSF, and brothers John and Harold; sisters Rosella and Anita in infancy; brother in-law Bob Linden and sisters-in-law Lynne Nachtman and Marge Nachtman, son-in-law, Brad Manuel, former husband Lawrence Schwers, long-time partner Kenneth Keating, and niece Michelle Nachtman.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Anamosa, or the Jones Regional Medical Center Foundation.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Woodland Park, the Anamosa Care Center and Above and Beyond Hospice for their care and compassion.
