Edith A. Blanton, age 89, lifetime resident of Iowa City, died Sunday, October 20, 2024, at the Lantern Park Specialty Care Center in Coralville.
Funeral services will be held at 1 pm Monday, October 28, 2024, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service where visitation will be from 11 am until service time at the funeral home. Burial will follow services at Memory Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in her memory to Iowa City Hospice. Edith Ann Hall was born May 16, 1935, in Iowa City, the daughter of Craig and Ester Hall. She attended schools in Iowa City and also in West Branch. She was united in marriage to Jack R. Blanton on December 1, 1973, in Iowa City. For a number of years she worked for United Technologies Automotive, but most of her life she was most proud to be Mom and Grandma.
Her family includes her children, Steven Poggenpohl, Janet Alcoch, and Dawn Schulte (Brad); 7 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 2 sisters. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jack; 2 daughters, Cindy Stroud and Karen Abbott; son-in-law, Ed Alcoch; 2 grandsons, and 9 siblings.
