Edgar B. Snow Jr., 85, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Aug. 29, 2016, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Private family services at 10 a.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial with military rites at the Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Per Edgar's request, the casket will be closed at all times.
Survivors include a son, Steven Keith (Mary Alice Jones) of Cedar Rapids; two granddaughters, Amy (Anson) Clark and Kim (John) Havlicek; and two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Brayden Kuper.
He was preceded in death by his wife; a daughter, Debra Sharon Kula; two brothers; and two sisters.
Edgar was born Oct. 5, 1930, in Lillybrook, W.Va., the son of Edgar and Carrie Gray Snow Sr. He married Gladys L. Ryan on March 10, 1951. Gladys passed away in 2014.
Edgar retired from the U.S. Navy in 1969 after more than 21 years of service. He later was a technical writer for Rockwell Collins and retired from there after 20 years of service.
He enjoyed watching and rooting for the Iowa Hawkeyes, reading, fishing, coin collecting, taking road trips and was notorious for telling bad jokes. His greatest joy, however, was the time spent with his friends and beloved family. His memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
