Earl Ivan Lighty, 79, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, Dec. 10, 2015, in Cedar Rapids. Funeral service: 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. A visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 14, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Earl was born Aug. 30, 1936, the son of Raymond and Geraldine (Fairweather) Lighty in Earlville, Iowa. He served in the U.S. States Marine Corps. Earl was married to Shirley Downs on June 15, 1958. He worked as a meat cutter for Wilson & Co. and Carfrae for over 30 years, and later as a custodian for Cedar Rapids Schools. Earl was a past president of the Cedar Hills Booster Club, where he also coached his daughter and son. He loved animals and enjoyed golfing. Earl was a great fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Bears.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Lighty of Cedar Rapids; four children, Cynthia Lighty of Cedar Rapids, Tammy Floyd of Cedar Rapids, Kristi Lighty of Hudsonville, Mich., and Kevin (Bernadette) Lighty of Normal, Ill.; three grandchildren, Andrew Floyd, Sydney Lighty and Samantha Lighty; brother, Larry Lighty of Marion; sister-in-law, Shirley M. Lighty of Delhi; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Perry C. Lighty.
