Earl Junior Hunter, 79, of Cedar Rapids, died
Saturday, April 26, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital, following an extended illness.
Funeral Services will be held at 1p.m. Friday, May 2, at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Pastor Rick Gail of First Assembly of God will officiate the service. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 1, at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Entombment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors.
Earl is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Susan Hunter; daughter, LeAnna (John) Romine; two sons, Christopher Hunter and Kevin Hunter (Nathan Strother), all of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Katie (Derek) Lacina of Wisconsin, and Nichole, Melissa and Devon Romine, also of Cedar Rapids; two brothers, Darell "Bud" (Sherry) Hunter of Mount Vernon and Michael D. Hunter (Paul Qualls) of Ottumwa; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Earl also leaves behind his three special dogs Suzy, Lucy and Jazy!
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Carol Lisle and Marilyn Hunter.
Earl Junior Hunter was born June 26, 1934, in Washta, Iowa, the son of Earl William and Lillian Fugate Hunter. Earl worked at the East Dubuque Telegraph Herald as a linotype operator until 1969 at which time he changed professions, attending Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, receiving an associate degree in Applied Science in Electronic Technology. Earl proudly served in the United States Army from 1956 to 1958. He was stationed in Germany and was honorably discharged.
He married Susan Parcel on May 27, 1967, in Ottumwa. In September 1972, Earl began his career at Rockwell Collins as an electronic test technician, until his retirement in June 1996.
He was a member of First Assembly of God. Earl enjoyed traveling, plus anything educational, health or fitness related. He attained rank 3rd Brown belt from the American Tae Kwon Do Academy. He put God first. Earl loved his family; his humor and smile will be greatly missed by many!
The family would like to thank all the staff, nurses and doctors from St. Luke's Hospice and Heritage Nursing Home for their love, support and tender care given to Earl.
