Earl Anthony Helle, 83, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Sunday, March 7, 2021. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 pm. Thursday, March 11, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 12, at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Burial will take place at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. All guests are respectfully requested to wear a face mask and practice social distancing.
Earl was born Oct. 6, 1937, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of John and Clara (Herting) Helle. On April 19, 1958, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hazleton, Iowa, he was united in marriage to Alma Schuler. Together they owned and operated the Country Table Restaurant in Alburnett, Iowa, from 1977 to 1982. Then Earl was an owner/operator at Crete Trucking Co. in Omaha, Neb., with Alma navigating for him. He retired in 2007. Earl was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. He enjoyed old time country music, playing the steel guitar and singing. Earl also enjoyed dancing, playing softball, traveling, and enjoyed the mountains. He was a very honest person and wonderful father. Earl took great pride in his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived and lovingly remembered by his children, Kathy (Dan) Beer of Center Point, Ronnie Helle of Cedar Rapids, David (Tammy) Helle of Fishers, Ind., Becky (Doug) Mart of Cedar Rapids, Bev (Brett) Christensen of Marion and Andy (Denise) Helle of Marion; eight grandchildren, Amber (John) Chipman, Ben Beer, Katie (Brenton) Greif, Ryan Helle, Christopher (Christine) Helle, Tim (Kerry) Link, Jennifer (Russell) Bauer and Jason (Karrisa) Rizzo; nine great-grandchildren, Mason, Coulter, Luke, John, Nathan, Gianna, Addison, Lily and Sophie; and sister-in-law, Mary Helle.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alma Helle, on May 10, 2020; brothers, LaVerne and Roger Helle; and sister-in-law, Vera Helle.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Earl's memory may be directed to St. Jude's Children Hospital or Xavier High School.
