Earl “Dean” Fick, 79, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Friday, April 19, 2024, at St. Luke’s Hospice Unit. Visitation will be held from 4 – 7 p.m. on Friday, May 3, 2024, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. The memorial service will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at the Lutheran Church of Resurrection, in Marion, with additional visitation one hour prior; Reverand Jeff Frohner will officiate. Inurnment at Holstein Cemetery in Holstein, Iowa, at a later date. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family. A live stream of the service will be available on the church website, www.lcrmarion.com.
Dean was born on July 9, 1944, in Holstein, the son of Earl Frederick and Donna Belle (Schmidt) Fick. After graduating from Holstein High School, he earned his Bachelor of Arts and Science from Iowa State University in 1967, his CPCU Designation from Drake University in 1971, and later earned his MBA from the University of Iowa.
On September 4, 1966, Dean was united in marriage to Barbara Jean Robinson in Des Moines, Iowa. He worked for Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance, then retired as the Vice President of Claims at United Fire and Casualty. Dean was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection. He enjoyed golfing with his Tuesday golf game buddies and was fortunate to take a trip to Scotland with his son Tony to play golf. Over the years, he played many courses with his wife throughout the United States. Dean will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Dean is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years, Barbara of Marion; two sons, Bryan (Nichole “Niki”) Fick of Raymond, Iowa, and Anthony (Stephanie) Fick of Highland Park, Illinois; three granddaughters, Makaela (Fiance, Dustin Moran), Avery, and Annie; one grandson, Jackson Campbell; brother, Keith (Beverley) Fick of Oskaloosa, Iowa, sister, Diane Simpson, Green Brier, Arkansas; sister-in-law, Sandra Trei of Adel, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Chelsea Fick; brother, Kent Fick; and nephew, Kent Simpson.
