Eakes, Mark
Mark Eakes, 63, of Iowa City, died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, at Mercy Iowa City.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Mark P. Eakes Memorial Fund. Lensing Funeral Service in Iowa City is handling arrangements. As Mark requested, there will be no services. There will be a Celebration of Life for family and friends at a later date.
Mark was born on Feb. 10, 1949, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Glen P. and Priscilla (Klumforth) Eakes. He lived most of his life in Iowa City. Mark worked for the University of Iowa hospitals and clinics for 32 years, beginning in 1979 and retiring in 2011.
Mark married Mary O'Connor on Nov. 16, 1971, in Iowa City. The couple later divorced. On June 23, 2001, Mark married Sherryl Breer in Iowa City. Mark was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved camping and just being outdoors where he felt more at home. Mark was also a member of Single Action Shooting Society (SASS).
Mark is survived by his wife, Sherryl; two sons, Jake Eakes (Stephanie) of Hills and Matt Eakes (Melissa) of Des Moines; brothers, Glen Eakes (Angie) of Bettendorf and Dale Eakes of West Liberty; sisters, Diana Eakes and Karen Murphy, both of Iowa City; five grandchildren, Dominique, Brayden, Skyler, Aryanna and Ava; a stepson, Walter Helm of Iowa City; and several nieces and nephews.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents.
