E. Jean Gilliatt, 91, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, April 28, 2017, at Living Center West. Services are at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 4, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Survivors include two daughters, Connie Clark of Columbus, Ohio, and Vicki (Ken) Slaughter of Marion; two sons, Craig (Myrna) of Cedar Rapids and Steve (Vicky) of Rio Verde, Ariz.; and a sister, Norma Long of Solon. She also is survived by 11 grandchildren; 14 great- grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Pat Gilliatt; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Mark; two brothers; two sisters; and a son-in-law, Jim Clark.
Jean was born March 27, 1926, in Cedar County, Iowa, the daughter of Isaac and Ethel Sproston Achenbach. She married Robert L. Gilliatt on May 1, 1944, in Cedar Rapids. Robert passed away in 2000.
Jean was a homemaker and also worked at both Killian's and Armstrong's department stores for several years. She was a former member of Central Park Presbyterian Church.
Jean enjoyed watching college football and was an avid fan of the Hawkeyes. She also enjoyed gardening, all types of animals, dancing, music and cooking.
Her greatest joy, however, was the time spent with her beloved family. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend, whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
A memorial fund has been established in Jean's name.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Erin Claar and the staff at UnityPoint Living Center West for the wonderful care given to Jean.
