E. Doris Deen, 95, of Central City, passed away peacefully on Friday, Nov. 16, 2018, at Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2018, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Central City. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2018, at the funeral home conducted by the Rev. Josh Hansen. Burial will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Doris was born Sept. 29, 1923, in Center Junction, Iowa, the daughter of Dudley and Viola (Bethurum) Deen. She graduated from Central City High School in 1940. Doris started working at Butter's Grocery Store and when it sold, she worked at G & E General Merchandise Store, both in Central City. In 1970, Doris started running the ceramic businesses her parents started. She was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church in Central City, where she had taught Sunday school, played piano and organ, directed choirs and sung in choir. Doris's hands and mind were always very busy with her love of sewing, knitting, crocheting, painting, crafting and baking. In earlier years, she enjoyed gardening and picking raspberries.
She is survived and lovingly remembered by numerous cousins including Vivian Moore of Monticello and Marian Marugg of Franklin, Ky.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents and several cousins.
Memorials may be directed in Doris's memory to First United Methodist Church in Central City, Camp Courageous or to the family to be designated at a later date.
