Dyrland, Terry Eugene
Terry Eugene Dyrland, 68, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Dec. 18, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. Services: 10 a.m. Friday at Teahen Funeral Home by Pastor David Dyrland. Burial: Cedar Memorial Cemetery at a later date. Friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Teahen Funeral Home and after 9 a.m. Friday.
He is survived by two daughters, Lindsay (Casey) Prince of Cedar Rapids, and Christina (Steven) Smith of Mankato, Minn.; four grandchildren, Eloise and Phoebe Prince and Aria and Cadence Smith; brother, David (Terri) Dyrland of Cedar Rapids; niece, Emi Chapman of Marion; two nephews, Jonathan and Daniel Dyrland both of Cedar Rapids; and former wife, Cherryl Thomason of Cedar Rapids.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents.
Terry was born April 15, 1943, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Lester and Opal (Hodge) Dyrland. He started his teaching career in Elkader in 1968. He most recently was a teacher with the Cedar Rapids Community School District. Terry also served two terms in the Iowa House as a State Representative from 1974 to 1978. He was an actor who started his career at Jefferson High School with hundreds of productions to follow at the Clayton County Opera House Players, Theatre Cedar Rapids and the Old Creamery Theatre Co.
Terry was very active in Democratic politics and enjoyed fishing, writing and reading.
