Dye, Doris Lorraine Frost
CEDAR RAPIDS - Doris Lorraine Frost Dye, 85, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Laurel, Iowa, passed away Thursday, Oct. 7, 2010, at Living Center West nursing home in Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 11, at Laurel United Methodist Church in Laurel. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Pursel Davis Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Interment will be at Graceland Cemetery, rural Laurel.
Lorraine was born Sept. 29, 1925, in Laurel, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Mary Blanche (Hrnicek) Frost. She grew up with her identical twin sister, Delores Elaine, in Laurel. She attended school and graduated from Laurel High School, where she was active in band and basketball. Following graduation she was selected to attend AIB in Des Moines, where she trained to work as a stenographer and typist for the Army Air Forces Material Command at Wright Field, Ohio. She married Russell John Dye on April 7, 1945. Lorraine had worked at Fisher Governor Co., Marshalltown, and for many years at Marshalltown's Security Bank in the Loan Department.
Lorraine and Russ enjoyed camping and especially all of their years boating on the Mississippi River. The “Sweet Lorraine” was the social hub on the Mississippi. Following a move to Portland, they retired to Arizona and eventually to Cedar Rapids. Lorraine loved living life to the fullest and being with family and friends.
Lorraine is survived by Dennis and Judy Dye of Cedar Rapids; and three grandchildren, Dan and Ashley Dye of Cedar Rapids, Dr. Edward Dye DDS and fiancee Sarah Hartley of Ottumwa and Bridget Dye of Lombard, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Russell (deceased 1992); her twin sister, Delores Elaine Veren; her son, Robert John; and her daughter, Debra Rae.
