Dwight R. Norris, 72, of Iowa City, died Monday, July 31, 2017, at Mercy Hospice Care. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 4, at Lensing's Oak Hill, 210 Holiday Rd., Coralville, with Christine Humirchouse officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Ridgewood Cemetery, North Liberty. For the visitation and funeral, friends may park at the funeral home, CBI Bank or the Montessori School. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Mercy Hospital Foundation or Iowa City Hospice.
Dwight was born Feb. 24, 1945, the son of Helen and Glendon Norris, in Des Moines, Iowa. He married Judith Ann Lewis on July 3, 1965.
Dwight started his career with Brooks, Borg and Skiles of Des Moines before moving to Lawrence, Kan., and working for Norris Bros Mech Contractors. Dwight moved his family to Iowa City, where he began his career working for R.M. Boggs in 1974 and later became an owner until his retirement in 2008. He belonged to the MCAI of Iowa and served as president from 1988 to 1989, as well as serving as an active director of the MCAI board of directors from 1986 to 2008 and other committees in the community.
Dwight is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Judith; son, Troy (Bridgit) Norris of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; his daughter, Denise (Brian) Boxwell of North Liberty; three grandchildren, Mitchell, Alex and Devin; brothers, Duane (Lynda) Norris and Dan Norris; ex-sister-in-law, Christie McConathy; as well as many nieces and nephews; and lifelong best friends, Dave Cherry, Dennis Narland, Lyle Spilman, Gary Winter and Don Fields.
He was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws and older brother, Dennis Norris.
